Personally, I’d rather work a little harder and live more luxuriously. But that’s probably because I love my work. If I had a boring job, I would be strongly inclined to save my money and retire early to the country.

You would be better served changing jobs, if you didn’t like your own.
Perhaps you could become a wine/cheese/chocolate shop apprentice. You won’t make much, but you’ll love putting in the long hours 🙂

Isn’t it a flawed assumption that harder work leads to more income? Most jobs, other than the lowest, are salaried with no pay for overtime.
